trees 3

When we do plein air paintings, the choices of objects is limited to manmade structures, nature in form of water, mountains, jungles, and folliage,.In all these paintings Play of light is important.Light is what defines paintings and objects. As against this when we paint in studio or at home the choice is limited if one is not painting from photographs. The day to day objects like kitchenware, furniture, fruits become the objects of paintings. In doors lighting can be artificial along with day light. The work can be done unmindful of outside wheather conditions! It is hence a choice of individual to paint live or in studio.I personally enjoy outdoor paintings, except some heavy rainy days. This also gives me an oppertunity to travel and explore outdoors.Meeting various types of people and interacting with them is fun too.And when i go outdoor for painting,we are in a group of 3 or 4, which makes it feel like a trip or picnic. So here i am posting one more of my tree paintings.

trees 2

As mentioned earlier the spot of painting again is full of trees. This is in the campus of pune university. The small hut like structure is watchmans storage cum room.I have used lot of lemon yellow to show the morning light . painting against light is very challenging.

last sunday...

forgot to add this one, done from different angle, same day!

last sunday

This is my latest, i.e. last sunday painting. The white painted ancilliary structure caught my eye beacause of the light and shade fallen on it.I am still carrying my small limited colour pallete,as forgot to keep the bigger one in the kit! This sunday i will carry full range of colours, though may not use all.

Well two more of monacromatic paintings!!

my experiments 7

this one is with burnt sienna and pynes grey. The white painted gate of new palace had very little chance of using any colour ,so i have left paper white for effect.i think cobalt blue and sinnenna will make better combination.I must try it sometime.

Good morning

Just to break the monocromatic paintings series under experimentation, i am posting this multicoloured painting. This is painted at Empress garden in pune.Empress garden attracts many people in the early morning for a walk and jogging. The garden is full of trees and very well maintained. The dry leaves fallen on the ground create an interesting pattern.I have tried to show the walk towards morning light.

my experiment 6

this is a bit mixed coloured painting sketch.i have written something on right hand side to get texture effect as well as a travel sketch look.

this is a evening light falling on structure.

my experiments 5

these are two views of new palace, kolhapur. It is an art painting decorative builgings.I love david taylors work from australia, for he paints such buildings with minimum brush stokes and details.

My attept also is to leave the complicated details out and show the forms of the structure,.

Lately i have deliberately stopped using pencil altogether, again an experiment to challenge myself. It becomes very difficult to paint complicated buildings without linework, but the loose ness which i achieve is what i enjoy. For practice, sketches are must and I do them all the time with pen, sometimes with pencil too.but they remain sketches only.Inmy paintings you will not find any pencil lines ...

my experiments 4

Again a very crowded place. The painting becomes difficult in such places ,as crowd gathers around you immediately.Due to Recent terrorist attacks ,security at this place is tightened.Police also are inquisitive about paintings!

To avoid all this i just sketched it on smaller pad and sat at a quieter place inside the temple and painted this one.so it is half reality and half imagination. The feel of the space is similar on the spot as in painting, hence posting this one.Again grey and ochre combination.

I am going to try auroline , gamboj, other shades of yellow too soon.

My experiment 3

The results of pynes grey and sap green are displayed today.I tried this combination where ever there were many trees and folliage. In cases where only stone buildings were to be painted, i used ochre and grey.

my experiments 2

After yesterdays comments on my post, these are two sketches i am posting.Though they look similar in tretment, the process is exactly opposite.I did a ball point sketch first as outline and then put washes in one painting. In the other i put washes first and just to define some architectural elements few pen lines are added. This technic is faster and in crowed places when big actual painting becomes difficult, this helps!I am also planning a binnale fair in france, hence travel book is in mind.

I also happen to sign my paintings differently in all paintings as i enjoy composing where and how my signature looks. It is in a local script called Devnagari. They when translated read as San- Jo

my experiment with colours 1

I was away on a trip to kolhapur, a place nearby for painting.I decided to be minimalist in material.I carried just 5 colour tubes and one brush and 2 a4 size pads. The paintings have a sketch look, but it was a deliberate attempt.I did about 30 small painting sketches? in 3 sessions!

Well experiments are for such madness!!Putting two of them today.the pynes gery is majorly used in combination with ochre .

sea scape

This is an year old painting done on a beach called murud karde.I am not used to seascapes and will need to do 100 before i get the picture right.I appreciate all the seascape painters more so after this attempt of mine.the water, waves, surf, and reflections... too difficult!

three options.

I am posting these paintings 12 hours earlier, as i have to leave for a painting workshop at kolhapur, a place at 4 hours driving distance.i will be away from computer for 3 days , hence posting 3 paintings ,out of one fullpaintings, just to show 3 options of composition.

As an architect, i always think of a reference point in the foreground, may it be a lamppost, a human figure, or just a shadow of an object. In this case the reference point, say a bench mark, is two trees. The focal point in all three options are structures with sunlit roof.It is upto you to decide which could have been a better composition .I also avoid such foreground if an infinity landscape is to be depicted. But these are rare occations in urban setup.

All of you ,have a wonderful week end.

12 noon, well almost

the title says it all. this was done indoors from a sketch again.I have iterpreted the 12 noon light situation. There are too many focal points though. The arch, the tree, the shade...any way i thought it was worth showing!

early morning

this painting is of a early morning light and shade play on a structure. We have some old sructures still left in our city. This is one of them and has a temple inside, gupchup ganpati.
It ha a traditional courtyard with a tree in it, which you see on left side of the painting.I generally paint in the mornings, but always find evening light quality different than morning time.Hope i can paint both qualities!

Freak out

I think, most of the western country artist, love free landscape, flowing colours, and loose as they call it.

Without such knowledge, i keep trying washes to get some flowing effects.this is an imaginary practise painting ,just to try out leftover colours in the pallette! But frankly personally i like it as i did it without any inhibitions.

travel painting

I am trying to document my travel. In doing so the idea is to combine travel, painting, calligraphy and writing skill!

The painting may not be a very finished one, but the feel of the place and nostalgic value should be projected through.Well , this the idea, now i must begin to travel!

This year i will travel within india.....
