painting of a sketch 1

When i was not able to go outdoors,I tried to paint from photographs, but found it boring as was unknowingly trying to copy it.But i resisted copying painting done by masters,as i could never mix the colours as they had.So finally i settled for a black and white skeches as abase for my paintings. It was totally upto me to decide the colour pallette. The shading was indicated in sketches and composition was ready!

These sketches were by Artist Shivaji Tupe, who i met later and also showed my painting! This i did in initial stage of my watercolour days. Now i dont do this any more, but i have about 20 such painting !!

This is beautiful Sanjeev. I read your words with interest as I believe I don't spend enough time on the drawing part of the watercolour. Do you do the shading at the drawing stage? Also do you use masking fluid on the white areas?

hi liz,
Merry chrismas.I am happy that you are reading my words. One correction though. The sketches i have painted these paintings are by somebody else.I am posting the borrowed sketches and painting both tomorrow to illustrate my point. No never do i use masking fluid,or white colour opaque or transperant.I dont use black either.I think one should start using these after mastering the basics. And i am far away from it!!

Thanks Sanjeev, Hope you had a good Christmas day as well!

I agree with you on the black, but I always thought that as you got better and better, you could dispense with the masking fluid! Just goes to show how good your work is.
