Yet again i sketch painted in the campus of pune university.I have called these are sketch paintings,as there is a use of mix media,mainly watercolours and printing ink.Also have used brush and calligraphic metal nib pen.I am trying out different words to describe my way of working ,but have not come across appropriate word.Anyway for the time being sketchpaintings is ok...enjoy them.

Was planning to sketch this perticular area for many days, but rains had prevented it!!..thi sunday it was not raining,so had a chance to sketch the rasta peth area in pune, my home town.But while driving back saw few spots and just parked my car and drew from sitting inside car !..the patches of washes are preplanned ,the sketches happened on them randomly!...enjoy them......

It was a rainy day today, so i just parked my car at two spots and sketched the surrounding views, but in a very graphical way, as it was difficult to see and sketch sitting at a drivers seat.

I spent a day in montain resort near my place in india.these are some of the impressions of the scenic views i have tried to capture.Its rainy season in this part of india, so sitting in a covered sitout and drawing is easier...The sketches are done watercolour and ink..these are not detail drawings but my impressions of the surroundings.

I painted/ sketched this historic temple complex this sunday 15 may 2011.In india, temples are not only religious places, but much more than that.In this complex, there is a place for small scale marriges, and other ceremonies like naming of the babies etc.Its also a place for eledrly people to cometogether and have a social interaction.many young ones come and study in the tranquil atmosphere of this temple.And ofcourse painters like us can also sit and do our art.In short, its a great place for all agegroups...

last week i visited shanghai expo 2010,i did some fast graphical sketches as i ahad no time for proper paintings . A simple black pen and small pad becomes handy in such situations.Drawing any building makes one look at the structure carefully,hence observation becomes important!!..
Shanghai expo has about 200 countries having pavelions ,showcasing their technological and cultural progress.It was fun visiting some of these country cases.

This sunday i sketched and painted in kasba peth area,which is a old city area.The narrow lanes make it enjoyable to sketch,especially the light and shadow play.Its rich in its heritage and culture,which i could not capture, but none the less i could make quick sketches of changing light quality.I would love to go there again and sketch heritage structures .Posting some which i did on this sunday.

I tried using black colour in waterpoof ink and acrylic paints,this sunday at university campus.I have drawn tower so many times that i can draw it withuot looking at it!These sketches are done as an experiment opposit to watercolour sketches,meaning drawing a bigger sketch with black and white. the size of paper is A-2 size.

This the biggest sketch paint i have tried so far .The tile on my floor is 1feet x 1 feet(30 cm.)
the paper used is exposed ammonia roll.I have used black and coloured waterproof ink.Also used mostly sponge brushes to cover bigger paint areas quickly. it took me 15 minutes to complete this sketch...I enjoyed the process,but not the end result, as i had not attempted big canvass as yet..may be few more of such attempts and end results could be good too. have a look of the process.

After a long gap of 2 weeks ,i got a chance to paint on this sunday.I sketched some and painted some spots in the pune university campus.Its a vast campus,with variety of manmade and natural beautispots.The season here in pune,india is at its best .Its right time to go out and do plein air.

i was trying to crop my images for collection of my signature,and some interestng compositions were seen .I sign my initials differently every time ,as a part of overall painting composition.I am posting some for you to see.They are not complete paintings ,but surely with some abstract values.

there was a demonstration of how to make abstraction from nature,i.e landscape in abstract form.An artist did a painting and some of us tried to do on similarlines...
i just didnot see the point as any landscape we draw is an absrtaction any way.posting something i painted afterwards.

The global warming is really affecting the rain pattern in pune.It rained heavily on sunday morning,which forced me to do sketches sitting inside the temple which i had planned to paint from outside...But i enjoyed it as rarely i do interior sketches!..the courts within temple provided combination of outdoor and indoor spaces.I forgot to take my camera,but i am visiting the same spot next sunday,so will post photos of this beautiful temple next time.Till then enjoy the sketches/paintings.

I miseed my sunday outings for 3 weekends due to various reasons.I didnot missthis sunday morning and went to this temple which is 250 years old and is declaired as a heritage monument.It requires repairs badly.The actual temple is too difficult to paint,so i ahve done surrounding areas.

This temple is 250 years old,built in stone,and now painted orange!! over stone.It is situated on river,so i get to sketch amd paint at the same time.The scene across the river is very green at present due to rains.The buiding at a distance show the urban development in pune.I have sketched the temple and painted the view across the river.

Due to monsoon rains nothing much is happening on painting scene.Tomorrow an art festival is starting

in one of the local art gallery.i am exhibiting 3 of my paintings.There are about 70 artists exhibiting various types of works.I am posting the three which i have sent to them.The festival will be for a week,with lectures,demos,workshops held everyday.I am looking forward to it.

The monasteries in bhutan are mostly white washed structures with an red band running horizontaly,which is a lucky charm band as they call it.it was in a way easy to leave paperwhite as walls ,but showing tonal values in white was a challenge.The background also becomes equally important in white structures.I am posting some here.

bhutan has a natural setting of mountain ranges.The city of Thimpu and Paro both are situated in the valley.It gives natural backdrop of the mountain ranges to the entire city.it is difficult to explain in words but i am posting a photo of paro airport,one with the most stunning background.some sketch paintings too are posted.enjoy !!

I had a wonderful trip to bhutan,a buddhist country.Its clean, beautiful and very safe country. Its a kingdom, hence has a royal feel to it.I will be posting some watercolor sketches i did in my visit in the coming week.I have done about 100 sketches ,some black and white and some colored.I have written on sketches so that i dont have to write much in text!!

tulshi baug is a busy shopping area with hawkers everywhere.The courtyard plan has ram temple in the middle and periferal small shops,selling brassware.Its a nice secure place to shop and also has religious touch to it.

I have tried a bit of black marker and atercolour combination.The black marker when washed with water gives a nice grey colour.I am otherwise purist, but this i am doing as sketches, so its ok!!...

I was at pune university and did 3 drawings of the building i had posted couple of days back. There was one more version done sometime back,which i am posting here too.The angle of the building is slightly altered as there were lot of red ants around onthe rearlier spot.!!

this is a painting done of a wall surrounding the templecomplex.It is built in bricks using arches as decorative elements.The fortification was a requirement of olden times to stop invasion from Moguls.so mostly we find all temple protected by high security walls.

This is a very famous institute in Pune.Many artists visit this for painting on weekends.The stone building with arches is a tough proposition,so i have taken a simpler frame and tried to show contrasting light plays on building.

It is always advisable to draw simple objects in initial stages of ones paintings lessons.We all tend to take bigger pictures like monuments ,streeet scapes etc.I am going back in my thought process and painting more of closeup objects now a days.My doors are also the fall out of this phase.this painting is also an attempt to simplify objects and scenes.This one is done very fast too.

It is always a big question to me of what to do with my ever growing paintings? Some are good overall,some turn out good in certain areas only.So I have found a way of reducing my paintings ,by cutting them( croping?) physically and paste them on my personal letterhead.I send all my informal notes on such letterheads! All my friends love a piece of fresh landscape stuck on the note!

I also crop them to make smaller frames for gifts.They workout economical and i can utilise my good part of the paintings.I am postong two such images,Approx. 4x 6 inches , but framed in glass,(you can see i couldnot avoid a flash reflection in photos!) which i have gifted to dear ones.

this is not a painting and niether a sketch.it is combination.This was done on the spot i Nuara eliya in srilanka last year.i carry red ,blue and yellow tubes with smallest pallette to outside india travels.This is done with the same limited resourses and i call them travel sketches.

After monocromatic paintings ,i felt like posting this colourful painting of a hostel block at college of agriculture.Its buillt in british era and has a majestic touch .Arches and stone are nightmares to depict,...but i enjoyed doing them.

I did these paintings just yesterday! hence calling them fresh!

My pallett broke exactly in the middle,making two parts.The right parts hold all warm colours and left all cool and few warm.I decided to use only right side of pallette yesterday as had no time to buy new one.The result is some what monocromatic paintings.

i had posted a painting of steps few days ago,this one is from a different angle but same place.The waterboby is accessed by steps ,and used for various religious functions and celebrations all through the year.This temple complex is in revdanda,konkan.I personally like the graphic and abstract quality in this painting.

It rained yesterday in my city,though it is summer season.It cooled the hot air and felt fresh.i remembered a painting done long back ,after rains,so posting it.It becomes sunny immediately after rains,so the picture shows wet and clear areas.

I was away to dubai on a holiday for last 4 days,Have sketched urban scenes there, which i might put up in near future.Any way,this one is from revdanda,The house was awashed with morning light,which i have tried to capture.
